Background of the study
Online learning has become an integral component of modern education, offering flexibility and accessibility to diverse student populations. At Adamawa State University in Mubi, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into courseware design holds significant promise for enhancing the quality of online learning. AI-generated graphics and illustrations can transform static learning materials into dynamic, visually engaging content that adapts to individual learner needs. These tools use machine learning algorithms to create high-quality images, diagrams, and animations that simplify complex concepts and facilitate better understanding. By generating customized visuals in real time, AI can help bridge the gap between abstract theory and practical application, making online lessons more intuitive and engaging (Adeola, 2023; Ibrahim, 2024). Furthermore, such dynamic content can improve retention and promote active learning by allowing students to interact with visuals and receive instant feedback. Despite these advantages, challenges such as high development costs, limited technical expertise, and integration issues with existing learning management systems may limit the full potential of AI-generated visuals in online education. This study investigates how AI-generated graphics can enhance online learning at Adamawa State University, focusing on the impact on student engagement, comprehension, and overall academic performance, while also addressing the technical and operational barriers to adoption (Chinaza, 2023).

Statement of the problem
Many online courses at Adamawa State University struggle to maintain student engagement due to the reliance on traditional, static visual aids that fail to capture the dynamic nature of the subject matter. Although AI-generated graphics and illustrations can provide high-quality, interactive visuals that enhance comprehension, their implementation is hampered by several challenges. High costs associated with developing AI-driven content, insufficient technical training for educators, and difficulties in integrating new tools with legacy systems all contribute to suboptimal online learning experiences. Furthermore, there is a lack of empirical research evaluating the effectiveness of AI-generated visuals in improving learning outcomes. These obstacles hinder the widespread adoption of innovative content creation techniques, leaving the potential benefits of enhanced online learning largely untapped. This study aims to evaluate the impact of AI-generated graphics on student engagement and academic performance, identify the main technical and integration challenges, and propose strategies to optimize their use in online learning environments at Adamawa State University (Ibrahim, 2024; Adeola, 2023).

Objectives of the study

  1. To assess the impact of AI-generated graphics on online learning outcomes.

  2. To identify technical and integration challenges affecting their deployment.

  3. To propose strategies for effective implementation in online courseware.

Research questions

  1. How do AI-generated graphics influence student engagement and comprehension?

  2. What technical barriers limit the integration of these tools into online learning systems?

  3. How can the implementation process be optimized for better learning outcomes?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it explores innovative ways to enhance online learning through AI-generated visuals. The findings will help educators improve courseware design, resulting in more engaging and effective online education (Adeola, 2023; Ibrahim, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to the evaluation of AI-generated graphics in online learning at Adamawa State University, Mubi. Limitations include high production costs, integration challenges, and varying levels of technical support.

Definitions of terms
